We are delighted to share the news that Dr. Amy Crockett, our dear friend and Centering partner, has been awarded the prestigious 2016 John P. McNulty Prize. The Prize of $100,000 is given annually to honor the visionary work of one Fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network of the Aspen Institute. “We could not be more pleased that Amy’s leadership, and Centering in South Carolina, are being recognized with such an esteemed honor,” said Angie Truesdale, CEO of Centering Healthcare Institute. “Amy has embraced the profound impact that human connection can have on health outcomes and has built a team and a statewide infrastructure that is wrapping around South Carolina moms and babies, resulting in lower disparities and impacting health for future generations.” CenteringPregnancy was adopted at the Greenville Health System in 2008. Dr. (Picklesimer) Crockett's landmark study in 2012 demonstrated a 47% decreased risk of preterm birth for women in Centering and led the way for group prenatal care expansion throughout SC and the US. Further, this study showed a profound reduction in racial disparity for women in Centering. Dr. Crockett's continued research and tireless advocacy have pioneered a movement where SC is currently incentivizing group prenatal care through enhanced Medicaid reimbursement and serving as a model for other states. Join us in applauding her and each of the Prize finalists. Their extraordinary achievements truly honor the legacy of John P. McNulty and inspire us all. Congratulations Amy...and to the entire team in South Carolina that has worked so hard to expand patient access to the CenteringPregnancy care model. It is a most well-deserved honor.
