By Wayne Baker Staff Writer BUTLER COUNTY — Butler County leaders put forth a proposal Tuesday to the Ohio Department of Medicaid to fund two programs — one to help new and expectant mother stop smoking and the other for group pre-natal care — in an effort to combat the county’s high infant mortality rate. Local community and political leaders, along with representatives from the five Medicaid managed care plans, joined Traci Bell-Thomas of the Ohio Department of Medicaid ,Tuesday afternoon at the Butler County Educational Service Center to discuss the two potential projects. Ohio Medicaid announced last month in a visit to Butler County, that for this fiscal year, the organization put in its budget $13.4 million to help communities across the state deal with high infant mortality rates. State Medicaid Director John McCarthy recently announced that the agency is, “investing $26.8 million over two years to support community-driven proposals to combat infant mortality at the local level and enhance coordination among various agencies that provide care for women and infants at risk.” Read more - www.journal-news.com/news/news/local/butler-county-makes-proposals-for-funding-to-comba/nqqky/
