We are a family practice clinic with midwifery services as well and offer both Centering Pregnancy and Centering Parenting . We are in our first year of Parenting and coming up on our 5th anniversary for Pregnancy. We started Parenting with a grant and have to comply with our goals and budget of the grant. So far our enrollment was limited to those families who participated in Centering Pregnancy, but we are not getting as many participants in Parenting as we had anticipated. We are going to open up the enrollment to babies that were not part of Centering Pregnancy too in order to hopefully get some more participants in the groups. Our groups right now have 2-4 babies. If there are other sites that roll their Pregnancy groups into Parenting, how do you accomplish this successfully? How do sites get participation from general population patients as well? We have a couple of ideas, but we could use some other suggestions for how to market the program to new parents that are not familiar with the concept of group care. Thanks!

Yes, you do need to open up the group to those who did not do Centering Pregnancy. It's the nature of it society to shift and move and catching the new babies at newborn weight checks is perfect. It works fine so just keep inviting until you get your numbers up.

You may want to consider a Centering Intake group as a strategy to recruit new infants and moms to your CenteringParenting groups. They are a great way to introduce new parents to your practice and to Centering groups where they can be with others who have babies the same age for their visits which will include lots more time to discuss topics around health, development and safety. The attached Group Intake guidelines are in color or black and white if you don't have a color printer.

Does any one round in the hospital on newborns and recruit from there? That is what we do in Lancaster,PA. We have pamphlets available to give patients and send a message to scheduler to fit them in a group.
