This is excerpted from a Site Approval renewal report for a practice that started Centering in 2005. They celebrated their 10 year Centering Anniversary in November -
Recruitment is a team effort that starts from walk-in pregnancy testing, OB screening visit with nurse and OB new visit with provider. We have posters around the waiting area and exam rooms promoting centering. All OB nursing staff is involved in Centering and co-facilitating groups. Our Strong Start Community Health Worker, is very enthusiastic and is hard to resist; she comes on Tuesday in clinic and helps with pregnancy testing. She speaks with every patient who has a positive pregnancy test about Centering. We have enrollment notebooks in every exam room and OB screening rooms that are used to illustrate the benefits and incentives for Centering.

Does anyone have a flyer that they use to educate patients about Centering? I'm not looking for the dates, but more general info and positive reasons to join groups that we could give out broadly. If you would be willing to share a Word version or something else we can edit, that would be very helpful. Thank you, Heather

Could you put these on here in a different format that isn't DOC.X? I am having trouble getting them to open and would really like to see them!

Hello, Does anyone have any good marketing ideas/strategies to educate and inform the community about Centering? Even more specifically, any good suggestions on how to reach an underserved population?
Thanks! Kristen

I have attached them as PDF files, but of course you won't be able to edit them. Centering Flyer B English.pdf (1.05 MB) Centering Flyer A English.pdf (125.74 KB)

I am super interested to hear what other practices are doing but we do have a marketing contact at CHI (its me!) that can help you create collateral to promote Centering. We are working this year on creating more resources for practice sites to increase enrollment for Centering. I am very excited to see what other sites are doing! Many make videos/use social media. Thanks, Shannon

Any advice or information on how you can promote centering without making traditional sound like its "wrong" or "less care" - We don't want to make it sound like the care they are getting with traditional is bad or not good, but we also want to promote centering.
Thoughts? Tools?

Many sites talk about what women enjoy about Centering, new friends, no waiting, more time with provider, food. That way it's not about traditional care being worse, just different. Is Centering your standard of care?

I totally agree Peg, there is no real need to compare Centering to traditional care unless the patient asks. I would simply sell the benefits: - no waiting
- all visits are prescheduled
- groups start / end on time
- takes place in a comfortable Centering space (give them a tour)
- they have a stable care team for the duration of their pregnancy
- a lot more time with the provider
- fun activities
- chance to learn more about their own health
- they receive a pregnancy journal to keep track of their progress
- opportunity to make friends with other new parents
- snacks
Recruitment wall from Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital - they start 5 groups / month

I have seen large banners advertising Centering in pictures of waiting areas. (5ft tall narrow floor stand) I do not see these in the Centering store. Are these available for purchase? Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
We are thrilled to be working with a new design firm and have a number of marketing tools, including a customized banner and new graphics, in the works. We will be posting further details here, but please email us directly if you have a specific request.

Here are some more great ideas from a recent annual report -
All new OB package we have brochures about Centering, place big colorful posters in all exam rooms, have providers to bring new potential Centering moms to our Centering room to sign up and get a feel of the great experiences they are going to have; great incentives for moms; and have a professional photographer to take before and after pictures of moms: first while they’re pregnant and second with their newborns; and to have an epic day called Diaper Days at least twice a year.
...for a Family Tree with pictures of moms while pregnant and pictures of them with babies. Each mom writes the infant’s names on a leaf. We have also implemented gift bags with infants toys, and clothes and gift cards. We also provide healthy food and snacks, temperature control of the room with moms in mind, and continue to use Centering website to let moms and others know that Centering exist and it is empowering.

Would love to hear their funding source for incentives they are talking about- diaper days, clothes, giftbags, etc. Something we always struggle with as an FQHC. We give small incentives but nothing to that scale!
