Health Outcomes
- Does Centering participation affect stress levels? Is there a relationship between stress levels and preterm birth?
- Does Centering reduce risk for depression? (or provide a mediator for depression)
- How does the involvement of fathers and partners in group affect the health and social outcomes we see?
- Are the preterm birth effects we have seen as a result of CenteringPregnancy replicable and are there other health outcomes that improve as a result of participation in Centering?
Life Course Research
- What are the long-term effects of Centering groups on family nutrition? Does Centering influence obesity rates when examined longitudinally?
- Over time, what are the measurable mother/baby/family outcomes that CenteringPregnancy followed by CenteringParenting influence?
- What cultural issues are most relevant to group facilitation and how does culturally sensitive care in Centering groups affect the participants?
- How do Centering groups fit into the life course theory and efforts to address maternal child health disparities?
Community Focused Research
- Community building is a core component of Centering. How does the community building that occurs in the groups affect the greater community? Are group members more involved in community issues that influence wellness and social determinants of health?
- How are community-based organizations and services integrating with Centering groups (for example Healthy Start, Heat Start, home visiting, legal aid)?
Excellence in Centering
- How many Centering groups have members who continue contact after their group care involvement has ended, and are there related outcomes that exemplify the strength of the relationships built in Centering groups?
- What are the key implementation factors or site characteristics that have led to long-term model sustainability?
Institutional Benefits
- Do staff involved with Centering groups experience more job satisfaction and longevity at the site?
- Do students and residents expose to providing care in Centering groups transfer that experience to individual care and to subsequent professional work?
- What is the cost benefit of Centering care to the site, the providers, the larger system, and the insurers?
- What are the longitudinal benefits, such as reduced chronic care issues and increased family stability, that might be measured?
