At the North Carolina Centering Consortium meeting this week our good friend and Centering champion sarahck educated us on how her sites in South Carolina use a Visit Type of CEN their EHRs to track Centering patient visits. This got us wondering how other sites are doing this. QuestionsHow does your practice track patient Centering group visits? What obstacles / challenges have you encountered in tracking Centering patient visits?

I have seen a couple of things. Sites have added Centering to the top of their Problem List, so it is always visible and the can do an electronic sort. This is an easy "fix" but unfortunately that does not give you the same flexibility as adding a CEN prefix or Suffix to the actual patient number, which is what I think sites in SC do. I have seen it both ways. The question becomes what is our intention for identifying the chart of a Centering person? Here are some that I have heard 1. So that every one who opens the chart knows this person belongs in a Centering group, and should be referred back. 2. So that we can sort outcome data with Centering as one of the variables. 3. So that we can easily find Centering moms and match outcome data with other moms. 4. So we can run reports Centering vs other. What else....??
