We are at the time in our Centering groups for 28 week labs and flu/tdap vaccines. Are other facilities doing the 28wk labs and vaccines during their groups? If so, how are you incorporating them into the flow of group? Are you doing them after?

We are extremely fortunate to have an MA assigned to our Centering program, she takes care of vaccines/labs during Belly Checks.

we incorporate the glucose test into the centering session, I do the belly check and then send the women to our lab to drink their glucola and then they are given a time to go back to the lab for blood draw and they just get up during group and go quietly to the lab. This is convenient for us because we are in the same building as the lab. It has not created a problem or disruption for the flow of the group to do it this way and our patients love that they don't have to come in for another hour at another time to do this test. Our vaccines, such as flu or Tdap are done during centering as well. we carry them to our centering room in a cooler and get consents that we require and give the injections as we do the belly check, it really moves quickly and that way the women are present for almost 2 hours after their injections to make sure they do well.

Thank you for the feed back. We have clinical support persons as co-facilitators during groups. As of this time, we have been doing vaccines immediately after group. This has been working out ok and the patients that want it do not mind waiting for a few afterwards. We have thought about taking the vaccines to group in a cooler, but the way vaccines are done at our center makes that a little more difficult. The forms are filled out at the beginning of group and given to co-facilitator then. As far as the 28wk labs, the patient will go to the lab on their time for these. Our initial thought was to not interrupt group and our lab is in another building.
