Hi there!
Can anyone help confirm or deny that a certified childbirth educator as a Centering facilitator can bill additional charges for groups? Any other creative ideas for maximizing billing?

In NC, I believe you can still bill for childbirth education at the end of Centering sessions ($85?) . You have to have certification as a CB educator, so if a Lamaze instructor, you can bill. If you are a provider and haven't become a CB educator, NC requires this. In the past, clinicians have gone to a one-day CBE class on a Saturday to get this credential. It's been over a year since there has been a training. Guildford Co HD may have been the most recent to send someone? Hoping some others will post here about this. Go ahead and put this on the NC consortium site too to see if you can get an answer. Kathy Trotter

Great question and many people ask/or wonder about it.
As Kathy T indicated, it is different in each state.
There are Education codes often called "S" codes for childbirth education usually for about $6-10 per mom per childbirth class.
When Centering first started in Virginia, someone found a way to have Medicaid extend the education codes to the licensed providers doing Centering with out requiring Childbirth Education Certification.
May sites billed the additional "S" and received reimbursement for some of the group sessions.
In retrospect, there are regrets around opening the education codes as this has proven to be a barrier to increasing the enhanced reimbursement for Centering.
My rambling take away here is that as far as I can tell, enhanced reimbursement is limited to providers using the Education codes and is only available in some states with either an additional CBE certification or a prior approval from Medicaid or other payer.
